Celebrating British Science Week 2025!
We have absolutely loved celebrating British Science Week 2025 across the Trust!
Our wonderful System Science team has been getting involved with all of the scientific fun in our schools, leading experiments, holding engaging assemblies and inspiring our students.
This year’s theme, ‘Change and Adapt’, inspired our primary learners through hands-on lessons exploring how the world around us changes and how scientists and engineers are responding.
Our Nursery pupils got their hands dirty planting seeds, exploring photosynthesis, and even painting daffodils. Reception delved into the states of matter by melting chocolate and hunting for camouflaged caterpillars.
Year 1 learnt all about plant parts and even invited parents to join in on the fun! Year 2 explored material properties, testing which could be bent, stretched, or twisted, while also learning about personal hygiene.
Our Year 3 pupils constructed air cannons, investigated magnetism with coins, and researched the life and legacy of Marie Curie. Year 4 delved into the world of electricity, debated the true inventor of the lightbulb, and created sound wave spoons.
Year 5 focused on environmental issues, building water filters from recycled materials and investigating microplastics in clothing. They also studied Jane Goodall’s work with chimpanzees and the changes humans undergo throughout life.
Our Year 6 pupils explored the theme of “Change and Adapt” by learning about Mae Jemison, Charles Darwin’s finches, and the importance of sustainability. They held a mini-science fair, complete with experiments and rocket competitions.
Our secondary learners dove into what it means to be a scientist, engaging in thought-provoking assemblies and exciting lessons about discovery and innovation!
A special highlight for us was our ‘Messy Science’ workshop where Sandbrook Primary pupils and their families joined us after school, sparking curiosity and wonder together! We can’t wait to run this session again soon!
It was a jam packed week full of scientific exploration, fun experiments and discovery!
